Welcome Everyone – September 2022
Hi All and welcome to the Journalism Program 2022!
I’m your Program Technologist Greg Prince.
I am here to help you with anything related to technical and/or production related assistance.
Please see my email below to contact me.
So far there hasn’t been an issue we haven’t been able to figure out.
Either with email assistance or we can setup a Zoom call to walk you through your issue.
Until then, check out some helpful info and links below to guide you to the software and services we use in the program.
Look forward to meeting you all!
Best
Greg

Below you will find links and information to the different web services we use in the Journalism programs at Sheridan College.
AppsAnywhere – a web browsers based app that links you to the software you need to use.
go to https://apps.sheridancollege.ca/ and if not already download this app to your computer if prompted.
Once downloaded go to https://apps.sheridancollege.ca/ again and once it recognizes your Sheridan username you should see a banner along the top of the page that reads “Validated’
an example of the validation banner
Here are the most common applications we use in our program that you can find in Apps Anywhere.
Please note: INews will only show up after you have launched the VM Horizon software.
Here is what each software does:
Academic Desktop – logs you in to a Virtue Windows Desktop (VM Ware) on campus.
INews – This is production software that you will become familiar with.
INews is a lineup and rundown editing and resource application.
You will use INews to access the Canadian Press Wires, and write your scripts.
Here is a link on how to launch INews through Apps anywhere and the Academic Desktop Application
ADOBE CREATIVE SUITE – You have access to Adobe’s Creative Suite
Click on the below link and sign in with your Sheridan User’s Name and Password.
Downloading the Creative Cloud Application will allow you to manage what software you use and download. The most common applications for us from Adobe that we use are.. Premiere (video editing) Audition (audio editing), and Photoshop (image editing).
Microsoft Teams – a collaborative online application that facilitates video conference and media sharing.
Cisco AnyConnect – this opens a virtual private network with Sheridan. Almost like if you brought your computer on campus and plugged it it. Be signed into this service to access the faculty drop boxes and and INews if you are on a Windows computer. After you download it make sure you add the address to the window before clicking connect (vpn.sheridancollege.ca)
